PRESENTATION FOUNDATION “LUBEN GROYS”

Foundation “Luben Groys” was created in 1996 and registered in the Sofia City Court registry by decision from 07.05.1996; No. 121109721, Tax No. 2221176513.

The Foundation’s primary objective is to be a part of the creation and support the development of new forms of theatre education; support the publishing of theatre related literature; stimulate excelling students and artists from different fields of the theatre; organize reviews, competitions and exhibitions related with the theatre and film arts.

In order to achieve its goals the Foundation is developing the following activities:

1.Creation of a College for education and training of students in the field of the dramatic and dancing theatre which purpose is the formation of rich theatre culture, bright creative individuality and at the same time – absolute awareness for the ensemble character of the theatre art. The College secures the presence of excellent teaching teams formed by recognized theatre educationalists and artists.

2.Conducts professional qualification courses in different fields of the theatre and film arts.

3.Promotes and finances nontraditional forms of theatre education and implementation in our country and abroad.

4.Organizes national and international forums concerning the educational problems in the arts’ field.

5.Popularize the creative, explorative and educational activity of the director Luben Groys.

6.Stimulates projects and manifestations by students and artists from different theatre specialties and organizes their promotion.

7.Supports the publishing of theatre related literature giving priority to the research in the field of Bulgarian theatre.

8.Organizes festivals, competitions, conferences and other events in the fields of theatre and film arts which objective is the exchange of information and experience.

9.Supports the development and distribution of Bulgarian and foreign plays and films.

10.Produces and co-produces plays, concerts and exhibitions created to support new forms of education for excelling students and artists.

11.Establishes scholarships for excelling young talents in the name of Luben Groys.

12.Finances and supports the building of cultural objects and specifically – theatre stages.

Foundation “Luben Groys” is financed with donations by private entities and applying in support mechanisms for cultural projects. We work in close partnership with the National Theatre Center within the Ministry of Culture, Bulgarian Theatre Association, UBFA; as well as international organizations like: ELIA, IETM, ARSEQ, UNIDRAM – Germany; French Ministry of Culture and others.

The number of persons employed by the Foundation is 13.

In the last three years Foundation “Luben Groys”:

1.After receiving support from National Fund “Culture”, prepared and published a collection of theoretical pieces “Godishnik” pt.1

2.Initiated and produced projects for dancing-poetical performances: “When Darkness and Light Talk” (based on poems by Luben Groys) and “The Place”. They were featured at “Salons des Arts” 2007 – National Palace of Culture and “Night of Museums” – Sofia Art Gallery. During the realization of a mutual project with “Management, Trade and Marketing College” – Sofia, the performances were presented at festivals in Istanbul, Turkey and Catherini, Greece.

3.Realized children’s Christmas show in partnership with “SOCIETE GENERALE EXPRESSBANK”.

Products of the educational process of Foundation Theatre College “Luben Groys” are over 16 plays.

With some of the plays the students have participated in numerous international events and festivals including: European Youth Theatre Meeting – Berlin ’97, Art-Plenary – Dune ’97, International Theatre Festival “The Danube – European River, River of the Balkans” – Ruse ’97, Balkan Meeting of Private Theatre Schools.

The student’s participation in explorative and educational projects and artistic forums is related with their participation in regional and international student theatre festivals and theoretical conferences including: BUF – Blagoevgrad University Festival 2003 (Female Lead Award – Borislava Kostadinova, Male Lead Award – Dimitar Kolev, Scenography Award – Denitza Serafimova and Rumen Dobrev); Setkany – International Student Theatre Festival in Brno, Czech Republic 2004; International Festival Euro-Art –Blagoevgrad 2005; Theatre Celebrations “Nevena Kokanova” 2005; Students Theatre Festival “Liuleburgaz”, Turkey 2005, Students Theatre Festival – Blagoevgrad 2008;

Regularly and periodically our students take part in the literature celebrations “Drumevi Teatralni Dni” where in 2004 the graduate Maria Eneva was excelled with First prize. Maria Veselinova received 3rd prize at the Competition in Artistic Speech, Shumen 2006; The winner of Best Film Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival “Monkeys in Winter” featured Diana Dobreva. She also received the Best Female Lead Award at the Festival of Bulgarian Film, Varna 2006, and Best Female Lead Award by the Union of Bulgarian Film Makers 2006 among many others.
